SPECIAL COUNSEL

Kelly Boyd

I focus my practice on helping entrepreneurs realize their dreams. If asked, my clients would say they most appreciate me as an advisor; both for legal questions and for general business advice at all stages of growth from pre-formation to global expansion.

I love practicing corporate securities law. I enjoy helping entrepreneurs along their journeys to transform their ideas into reality and also helping larger companies navigate more complex issues.

Over a decade spent on the business side, both at a public software company and then running a startup of my own, has allowed me to bring deep and practical knowledge of business and legal principles to both public and private companies. I regularly advise startups on formation through funding rounds and mergers & acquisitions and represent issuers and underwriters in initial public offerings and follow-on offerings.

After spending over two decades in the San Francisco Bay Area, emerging growth companies are part of the fabric of my life. The strategy behind helping entrepreneurs navigate tough business environments thrills me (don’t laugh…it’s true!), and at this point in my career, I have seen enough to make my counsel much wiser than when I started my career as a securities lawyer at Wilson Sonsini in the late 1990s.

I attended law school in the Midwest and loved the Midwestern values. Foley has these same midwestern values and an incredible platform the Foley team has built over the years with deep expertise in verticals such as Health Care and Innovative Technologies. I came to Foley to help the firm grow its West Coast presence and brand.

When I’m not working, I generally hang out with my family. We play family mixed doubles tennis, ski, and hike together. I am also an avid cook, love a good novel, and enjoy traveling just about anywhere.
