While my legal focus is exit transactions/M&A, I routinely help growth companies in all legal aspects of their corporate, fundraising and go-to-market matters, often acting as outside general counsel to newer organizations. As a lawyer/MBA and a former professional musician, I take a broad, strategic approach to my practice – I have frequent “off-the-clock” calls and meetings with my clients’ founders and boards, helping them to think creatively and see around corners. And in addition to entrepreneurs and growth companies, I regularly represent strategic and financial buyers and investors, which helps me understand and anticipate both sides of a negotiation and help my clients “get to yes” sooner (or to walk away from a deal, when that’s the right choice).
Foley is the perfect fit for my early-stage practice – the firm supports our attorneys’ entrepreneurial initiative (see, e.g., our second-to-none-telehealth practice) while thoughtfully adapting and stewarding our 180-year-old enterprise toward its third century(!) of success as a trusted advisor to the world’s best companies. Our associates are incredibly smart, practical and well trained (which helps me keep deals on budget while delivering excellent client service), and our subject matter experts are leaders in their fields.
Outside of the law, I love spending time with my wife Amy and our two sons, traveling, and enjoying great food and drink, and live performance. In particular, I enjoy listening to and performing live music of all types – you can sometimes find me on stage with the Northshore Concert Band or sitting behind the drums at one of Chicago’s many jazz jam sessions.
