Foley & Lardner LLP recently represented Claritas Capital and Emerald Plus in their investments in Matchday, an interactive entertainment startup focused on casual gaming for soccer fans. Play Time, an investing vehicle of World Cup winner Lionel Messi, incubated the company and is a key investor in Matchday’s $21 million seed round.

Matchday plans to blend Web3 and mobile gaming to create a suite of FIFA-licensed soccer games that cater and appeal to casual gamers among the 5 billion soccer fans on earth, whereas existing simulation games like EA’s FIFA only reach roughly 25 million of them.

Claritas Capital is a private equity investment firm that seeks to invest in companies operating in the healthcare, business services, technology and real estate sectors. Emerald Plus is a venture capital firm that invests in Web3 companies that are rethinking the distribution and consumption of content, and the future payment rails that come with it.

The Foley deal team was led by Foley Partners Lyman Thai and Louis Lehot.
